After the last episode, in December 2021 in Follonica, we continue with the community mapping project which we started in 2014 in the Farma Valley, then developed in 2019 in Tatti, and in 2020 in Roccastrada. Participatory mapping is one of the permanent components of the Jug Band Colline Metallifere’s activity (in every performance we bring the maps created in the previous episodes, and we like to do “geomusic“).

To reboot the story with the Summer in mind, we invite you to the Enoteca Le Volte in Roccatederighi (Southern Tuscany), from 7 to 8PM to learn the basics about this project and to understand how to collaborate.
Being in Roccatederighi (at the centre of the image), we will start be checking how to add a few points in order to connect the West side of the map (Tatti) with the East side (Sassofortino and the Farma Valley)…but it will not be forbidden to drift from there, following the sweet & sour mobility paradigm.
The show will be hosted by Jack O’Malley (in his capacity as environmental engineer and mapper with the nickname of Andrea Giacomelli), with Mauro Tirannosauro, and possibly other JBCM associates.
One of the main problems for the merchandising of any project is to find models to wear shirts, pins, tote bags and other items which – somebody said- will help to promote the project.
Since the JBCM is not a rock band but and international and inter-generational collective born to share with citizens stories and ideas related to the environment, our territories, rural development policies etc, we needed to find somebody suitable. After months of work of casting agencies we have identified as the headliner in our model rosters Fabio Bettio. Fabio is MS in electronic engineergin from Genova, relocated since the early Nineties in Cagliari (Sardinia). He is an international expert in computer graphics and scientific visualization. In the picture you see him during a break in on of his training sessions.

On Saturday, July 9 , at 6.30PM come and meet with some characters which since the Seventies, together with the communities of six hamlets, are keeping alive in the Metalliferous Hills of Southern Tuscany an ancient game: palla a 21 (or palla eh!).
Claudio “Bob” Spinosi, with Jack O’Malley and Dario Canal from the Jug Band dalle Colline Metallifere, will lead you to discover a world of games which is parallel to other mainstream sports, while making you travel across valleys and hills of Southern Tuscany, reaching Chicago, Illinois, and ending with a ball construction workshop by Ilo Ferrandi.

The list of presentations which will be given at the ninth Living Knowledge conference, to be held between June 29 and July 1 in Groningen (The Netherlands), has been published. This includes a JBCM performance as a part of our 2022 non-formal education tour (see presentation article here). You will also find here the full list of presentations. The final programe will be published around mid May.
According to our very first idea, that was in January, we were supposed to be travelling with all the band. However, summing the complexities deriving from the issues in Eastern Europe and other organizational issues, the lineup will be:
…with the possibility of featuring artists and/or scientists based on a track list which will be released around early June.
For the Italian portion of the tour: the two above mentioned subjects, plus other elements to be added (the closer to the Metalliferous Hills, more options we have)
By the end of May-early June we expect to publish the final schedule.

We are very pleased to announce the lunch on Saturday May 21 at Altrimondi, in Follonica. Here we have been hosted since 2019 in various configurations, and the event taking place in nineteen days will be the combination of many stories. All of these originated around a bar table on January 4, 2007, in Torniella, a small village in Southern Tuscany, and from there they have been bouncing between Chicago, Ribolla, Verona, San Francisco, Mantova, Lari, Milano….and more places.

Eravamo carichi a pallettoni da un mesetto per l’appuntamento del Festival Eretico a Monterotondo Marittimo, estrema provincia nord di Grosseto, dove la maremma.
Purtroppo, a 24 ore dall’inizio della cosa, gli organizzatori hanno prudentemente proposto di rimandare l’evento (possibilmente ai primi di giugno, si attende conferma) e in effetti le previsioni erano azzeccate perché durante il pomeriggio è piovuto “come le funi“.
Ma, c’è un ma…data che la Jug Band Colline Metallifere non fa solo concerti, ma anche conceTTi, e avevamo chiesto agli organizzatori la possibilità di avere un banchetto per presentare le nostre mappe di comunità, le nostre buiometrie partecipative, le nostre palle a 21 dalla Toscana a Chicago ecc ecc…è successo che Jack O’Malley, insieme al collega Mauro Tirannosauro, in rappresentanza del collettivo-arte-e-scienza-internazionale-e-intergenerazionale-che-propone-geomusica si è presentato alle 14.30 in piazza a Monterotondo.
Essendo l’evento promosso dal bar-ristorante Che c’è c’è e dall’Enoteca degli eretici, la parte conceTTistica si è svolta in due tempi. Nel primo tempo, al bar, abbiamo avuto modo di conferire con una delegazione di cacciatori che erano a prendere il caffè in attesa di fare qualche gita verso la piana…e lì abbiamo avuto modo di introdurre il tema delle mappe di comunità. Il progetto fu avviato a Milano dal 2008 e in Toscana sin dal 2014, partendo dalla Val di Farma. Inizialmente si basava su OpenStreetMap, e poi è diventato l’integrazione delle carte tecniche regionali con la toponomastica locale mancante dal dato istituzionale, al fine di “raccordare le conoscenze dei residenti con quelle dei presidenti”.

La cosa era assolutamente non programmata, ma tre punti li abbiamo segnati, così per esempio, e non sarà difficile ritrovarsi per proseguire l’esercizio, se i residenti sono interessati.
Nel frattempo i clienti pranzanti all’enoteca degli eretici erano arrivati al “sobre mesa”, e complice la pioggia battente non erano particolarmente motivati a uscire…nel salutare i titolari e presentare i soliti temi (mappe di comunità, progetti di sentieristica, e buiometria partecipativa) si è scoperto che:
con uno di loro di eravamo già visti nell’agosto 2010 alla Riserva Nazionale del Belagaio, per uno degli eventi da noi organizzati come BuioMetria Partecipativa.
la coppia di escursionisti che è stata “esposta” all’ascolto di alcun brani dal concerto-intervista al Live Motel di Radio Deejay Fox era alloggiata presso un agriturismo in cui pibinko nel 2006 era stato ingaggiato come fotografo per una festi di matrimonio, scattando la sua “meglio foto” di quell’anno:
Dario era a studiare, ma è stato convocato per breve videocollegamento con i presenti. Con saluti, baci e arrivederci alla nuova data, e playlist degli Etruschi from Lakota passata sull’impianto dell’Enoteca.
Sembrava finita lì, ma come in tutte le sceneggiature c’è stata una coda. Alla biglietteria del MUBIA, il Museo delle Biancane. Jack si è recato sul posto giusto per parlare con lo staff e spiegare le cose che aveva proposto di fare inizialmente (ovvero invitare gente dalla mattina a camminare sui percorsi che ha contribuito a progettare sin dal 2016, per poi andare a rilassarsi con la musica nel pomeriggio).
Nel ripresentare i soliti temi (mappe, giochi antichi e buio), la signora ha detto a Jack: “Ah, sì, questa cosa del buio…in passato il Parco aveva organizzato dei trekking in notturna per vedere le stelle…e poi, poi c’è anche un altro signore nella zona di Gavorrano che fa delle cose del genere, ma non mi ricordo come si chiama…”
