These lyrics were written to be part of the “musical facilitation” component of a research atelier on “Co-designing a space for Citizen Science”, together with a couple of other songs, at the 2020 Conference of the European Citizen Science Association (ECSA).

Be’ mi sono svegliato stamattina, e pensavo ai cittadiniWell I woke up this morning, ci-ti-zens on my mind
Be’ mi sono svegliato stamattina, e pensavo ai cittadiniWell I woke up this morning, ci-ti-zens on my mind
Poi ho visto quei ricercatori, alcuni di loro accecatiThen I saw them researchers, some of them have gone blind
E ho visto un sacco di gente, e un sacco di loro dimenticatiAnd I saw a lot of people, and a lot left behind
E’ quel blues, quel blues della partecipazioneGot that participation, participatio-o-n blues
Per cui son venuto a Trieste, in effetti, ero onlineSo I came to Trieste, in fact, I was online
Ho sentito di uno workshop, che parlava di coprogettazioneI heard of a workshop, dealing with co-design
Mi ha chiamato la nonna, mi ha chiesto di che si trattasseGot a call from my granny, she asked what this was about
Le ho detto perché non vieni anche te, così lo scopriraiI said why don’t you join me/and you’re gonna find out
Got that participation, participatio-o-n blues
Ora lo workshop è finito, e comincia la notteNow the workshop is over, and the night has begun
Fossimo stati a Trieste, ci saremmo divertitiHad we been in Trieste, we’d be having some fun
Comunque ho visto della bella gente, e ci ho pensato suStill I’ve seen some nice people, and I’ve been thinking it through
Ora passo la parola a Claudia, che ha qualcosa per voiNow we give it to Claudia, ‘cause she’s got something for you

AJBCM Delegation at the European Citizen Science Association conference

On Sep. 9, 2020, a delegation from the Jug Band Colline Metallifere (Jack O’Malley, Dario Canal and Wolfgang Scheibe) took part in the annual conference of the European Citizen Science Association.

The group performed some of its songs in a workshop about “Co-designing a space for Citizen Science”, by Claudia Göbel, Pia Viviani, and Jack O’Malley, also proposing a “participation blues”, specifically written for this event. The ending of the song is made to “hand the mike” over the Claudia… For more information and booking: micalosapevo@pibinko.org

Well I woke up this morning, ci-ti-zens on my mind | stamattina mi sono svegliato e pensavo ai cittadini

Well I woke up this morning, ci-ti-zens on my mind

Then I saw them researchers, some of them have gone blind | Poi ho visto quei ricercatori, e alcuni mi parevano accecati

And I saw a lot of people, and a lot left behind | e poi ho visto un sacco di gente, e un sacco di gente lasciata indietro

Got that participation, participatio-o-n blues | è quell’incupimento da partecipazione

So I came to Trieste, in fact, I was online | Allora poi sono venuto a Trieste, in effetti ero online

I heard of a workshop, dealing with co-design | Mi hanno parlato di uno workshop che aveva a che fare con la coprogettazione

Got a call from my granny, she asked what this was about | mi ha chiamato mia nonna e mi ha chiesto di cosa si trattasse

I said why don’t you join me/and you’re gonna find out | le ho detto: “perché non vieni anche te, così lo scoprirai”

Got that participation, participatio-o-n blues

SOLO

Now the workshop is over, and the night has begun | ora lo workshop è finito, e comincia la sera

Had we been in Trieste, we’d be having some fun | Fossimo stati a Trieste, ci saremmo divertiti

Still I’ve seen some nice people, and I’ve been thinking it through | Comunque ho visto gente interessante, e mi hanno fatto riflettere

Now we give it to Claudia, ‘cause she’s got something for you | E ora do la parola a Claudia, che ha qualcosa per voi…

Jug Band Colline Metallifere Duo @ Melosgrano, Lago dell’Accesa, Massa Marittima (Tuscany), Aug. 7, 2020: How did it go?

The conce[r|p]t in the “MeloSgrano” space at Lago dell’Accesa, by Massa Marittima on Aug. 7, 2020 (see here the presentation of the event, with the full calendar of initiatives through September) turned out to be a great success.

We created a set based on documents and findings held in our “stuff-o-theque“, and we gave a performance were stories on the Southern Tuscan territory and some of the characters we met there over the years are intertwined with reports of community engagement and research activities, and -of course- songs dealing with the same topics.

Thanks to Coop. Il Melograno for this opportunity and to Romina Zago for the photos.

After the official show there was a little jam session involving also Paolo Mari (with the excess of guitars in the area he could not avoid joining the team for a couple of songs).

A call for milanese bands: collaborate with the Jug Band Colline Metallifere on the new Video for “Rock in Milano, Blues at La Rocca”

The Jug Band dalle Colline Metallifere (JBCM) is an inter-generational and international musical collective based in Southern Tuscany, at the borders between the provinces of Grosseto, Pisa, and Livorno. The JBCM was born in 2018 to propose geomusic, and perform in conce[r|p]ts, i.e. to propose in the same space concerts and concepts, namely in the field of environment, and territorial or rural issues. Such activity represents one of the developments of a thread of initiatives for the protection and promotion of lesser-known assets in the fields of environment, culture, and open innovation, started in 2007 by the pibinko.org network.

During the lockdown, we were invited to prepare a song in a videoconference for the May First celebrations, organized by the association Rocca Norsina AD 952 from Roccatederighi (Southern Tuscany, very close to where two of our members are based). We responded to this invitation with “Rock in Milano, Blues at la Rocca”. This is a blues debate between a resident in a rural area versus a city dweller:

The social distancing version of the video, produced between April and May 2020. The video is subtitled in English.

During the month of August we are planning to create a new version of the video, in which we may finally have the band together and interact with some characters in the village..

Considering that the lyrics propose a comparison of the situation in Roccatederighi, representing a lesser rural site, with Milano as the symbol of a big city, we would like to try an improvement to our previous version of the song: we would like to have the part where the milanese sing about Roccatederighi inhabitants to be sung by actual milanese musicians.

For this reason we are looking for pre-existing formations, or joint ventures which could actually materialize in response to our call. As a minimum if would make sense to have a duo (a singer and an accompanying player). In any case, we are open to options.

The shooting of the milanese part is planned for the second half of August, and the publication of the video is currently scheduled for September (with most of the video being shot in the first week of August for the Tuscan part).

The production of the video will be managed by Officine Pandino (i.e. Orsola Sinisi and Lucio Monocrom).

The milanese musicians who will be selected to collaborate will receive a selection of typical products from the band’s area of origin. The actual entity of the selection is to be confirmed, while we wait for feedback by sponsors who will support the project.

The video will be promoted within the pibinko.org, network, thus insuring non-local visibility to all participants.

To have a better view of the context in which the video is being produced, please take five minute to browse the pibinko.org and jugbandcm.it web sites.

If you are interested, please write by August 10, 2020 to micalosapevo@pibinko.org, proposing your musical resume and a brief motivation text to explain why you would like to collaborate.

Sponsors interested in contributing to the production of the vide may write to the same email address.
