The Italian Association for Siesta Protection, in collaboration with the Italian Insomniac Society, the Circle of Square Triangles, pibinko.org and Toscana Foto Festival are proud to present the photographic contest Between dusk and dawn.
The subject of the contest is photography under non-daylight conditions, exploiting as much as possible natural light sources.
The contest will consider three cateogories for the images
The contest will also consider two categories for images of interest, but not in the running for prizes:
To provide some examples of the type of images we expect, an exhibition will be set up.
The exhibition will be accessible online, and may also be visited live during the Toscana Foto Festival, at the Le Logge bar in Massa Marittima, Italy.
Independently of the indications provided by the exhibition, we will be glad if you can surprise us with your ideas!
The contest is open to all. An image may be proposed only by its author. By submitting an image, the author is also declaring and guaranteeing that:
In any case, the author waives the contest organisation from any whatsoever liability which could be incurred due to the content of the work.
The registration for the contest is free
The registration is made on line, at the address http://www.pibinko.org/tramalba/en/ul/compila_dati_conc.php
Upon registration, each participant will provide some data. We like the idea of learning a little more about you! In addition to typical registration information, we have a few questions, marked with a star in the list below:
Each image submitted for the contest will receive a score between 0 and 75. This score is composed by summing:
There will be an expert jury composed by three experts. Each of them will indicate for each image a score from 0 to 15, based on personal and discretional judgement, leading to a maximum potential total of 45.
The expert jury will not have access to information on the participants, and will only be allowed to review the images.
The participant will receive one (1) point for each of the (*) questions that he will respond to upon registration, up to a total of 15 points.
Each participant may submit up to four images related to the three main categories (dusk, moon and stars, dawn). We would like to encourage participants to send fewer but selected images. For this reason we will apply the following score in relation to the overall number of images submitted:
Images submitted | Score |
4 | 0 |
3 | 5 |
2 | 10 |
1 | 15 |
Images submitted for the starry skies or light pollution categories will not affect this scoring.
Images will be submitted in digital format (JPEG), with a maximum size of 1 Mb. A higher resolution version of the images may be requested by the jurors during the evaluation phase.
An image may be assigned only to one of the five categories proposed in the contest (dusk, moon and stars, dawn, starry skies, and light pollution)
The system will send an e-mail confirmation following the submittal of an image.
Each participant may submit through a single account only. The creation of multiple accounts will result in disqualification of the participant.
The organisation may, at its own discretion, exclude candidate works should these be considered unrelated to the main subject, of low quality, or for any other valid reason. The organisation may, furthermore, exclude authors who will try to manipulate the scores, or who may have an inappropriate behaviour for a fair competition, or for any other valid reason.
Images will be accepted between June 21 and September 20, 2010. The date stamp provided by the server hosting the contest will be considered as a reference.
The Jury will be composed by experts in the field of photography and in the use of light
The images receiving the highest score for each category will receive an in-kind prize.
In the case of images achieving the same score within the same category, a draw will be used to assign the prize.
After the prizes have been assigned, all images will be published on the contest web site, and advertised through various media.
For all submitted images, the participant will grant to the organisation the possibilty of using them within the promotion of the contest and in order to advertize the winners and other works of notable interest. Any other use of the images will be discussed in advance with the authors.
The contest is open to images under any type of license. The organisation will, in any case, appreciate images provided under a Creative Commons licence.
Employees of the institutions involved in the organisation of the contest, and their relatives, may not participate.
The results for the contest, together with the list of winners and assigned prizes will be published on the web site www.pibinko.org/tramalba
Upon request of the organisation, runners up and winners may need to provide additional information to the organisation. Failure to provide such information may result in exclusion for the contest.
Pursuant to Italian Law 196/2003, all personal data related to a participant will be used only in relation to the organisation of the contest. Personal data will not be disclosed to third parties.
The organising committee may at any time modify or amend the contest rules. In this case, all participants will be notified by e-mail.
